CRASH Blog Entry

The scene when the cop pulled over the black couple made us most uncomfortable.  It made us uncomfortable because he sexually assaulted her.  It is scary to see because he could just get away with it because he is a cop.  The police are supposed to help you and protect you, but the cop was the attacker in this scene.  The cop also said some very racist things to the couple.

We relate to the character Dorri, played by Bahar Soomekh.  We both relate to her because we also live with out parents, like her.  Dorri has to take care and help out her parents and so do we.  Sophie had a foreign father so she can really relate to Dorri.  Dorri never did anything wrong throughout the film.  She was always there to help her father.

We think that the movie did a really good job at getting its point across.  It did not hesitate on showing how it really is.  The film portrayed all kinds of racism, including inter-racial prejudice.  Anthony, who was played by Ludacris, discussed many stereotypes of blacks with Peter Waters, who was played by Larenz Tate.    The inter-racial prejudices were shown very clearly in the many racial groups in the film.   The LAPD, Los Angeles Police Department, is known for being a racist and brutal.  The LAPD has been known to shoot people on the spot.  Also, the crime rates in Los Angeles are very high.   There is a lot of racial tension in Los Angeles, which leads to separation between racial groups.
