1.please state the scene from CRASH that made you feel the most uncomfortable and why?
The scene we saw as most uncomfortable was when the cop matt dilon abused his power and patted down Ria. We disliked this scene as it scares us to know that the people who are supposed to be protecting us are actually abusing their powers. It was uncomfortable to see how Ria was patted down feeling so hopeless without anything she could do. The couple was stopped and targeted over the color of their skin and the racial hatred the cop matt dillon felt.
2. Well I would say that one character that I could relate to would be the character Daniel Ruiz. I could relate to Daniel Ruiz because i'm also Hispanic and sometimes have to deal with some stereotypes. Like the scene where he’s changing the door locks and the white women Jean Cabot was talking to her husband about how she wants her locks changed in the morning because she saw that a Hispanic guy was changing them. She thought all these racial stereotypes and said a bunch of racist things just because he was hispanic and had tattoos. She automatically thought he was a gang banger and that he was going to sell their keys. I feel like people look at me and think i'm a bad kid because of my racial background.
3. A: how well do you think the film handled the topic of race? Explain.
The film had detailed the topic of race it showed us how the issue of race was a serious obstacle. It showed us multiple points of view in order to get a better understanding and struggles people would have gone through. It showed great examples on how people had to go through prejudgement. The film director had even stated as scary and cruel some events were they felt like they had a responsibility to show the public how real these situations were.
B: Was there any inter-racial prejudice portrayed in the film? Explain.
The film had inter-racial prejudice portrayed in it through all the people who had racial comments and opinions. Like the scene when Ludacris’s character and Larenz Tate’s character come out the fancy restaurant and Ludacris is talking about how he felt that they were being racist and judgemental to him and Larenz. Then afterwards he talked about how he saw the white women get closer to her husband and he thought they were doing too much just because they're black. Also there are more examples but this is just one.
C: how do you think living in los angeles area affects the lifestyles of its citizens?
we think that living in los angeles during the late 1900s was difficult as unemployment was high and crime rates were high. People looked for a scapegoat and they used different races as targets. life for the over populated los angeles was a true struggle and they are still recuperating as they are still finding ways to come together as a community. The lifestyles of individuals in los angeles is affected by the people around them and as a person chooses to make the correct or wrong decisions determines the future of others.
